1. What is poetry? Based on your opinion

2. What are genres of English Poetry? give an example of each genres

3. What are genres of Indonesian Poetry? give an example of each genres 

Answers

1. Poetry is as a genre of literature that using the imaginary and figurative language that can make the        reader know the message of the poetry. Poetry also a form of writing that can use for word, and            pattern of sound.


2. There are 3 genres of English Poetry 
     a. Narrative Poetry (a poem that tells a story and has the element of a story)
         Ex:
                                        The Iliad by Homer
                    Sing , Goddes, Achilles' rage,
                    Black and murderous, that cost the Greeks
                    Incalculable pain, pitched countless souls
                    Of heroes into Hades's dark
                    And left their bodies to rot as feats
                    For dogs and birds, as Zeus' will was done
                    Begin with the clash between Agamemnon
                    The Greek warlord - and godlike Achilles


     b. Lyric (an emotional writing that focusing on thought and emoticon)
         Ex:
                                         Go Lovely Rose by  Edmund Waller
                                                        Go lovely rose~
                                            Tell her that wasted her time and me.
                                            That now she knows,
                                            When I resemble her to thee,
                                            How sweet and fair she seems to be.
                                            Tell her that's young,
                                            And shuns to have her graces spied,
                                            That hadst thou sprung
                                            In desert where no men abide,
                                            Thou must have uncommended died.
                                            Small is the worth
                                            Of beauty from the light retired;
                                            Bid her come forth,
                                            Suffer herself to be desired,
                                            And not blush so to be admired.
                                            Then die-that she
                                            The common fate of all things rare
                                            May read in thee
                                            How small a part of time they share
                                            That are so wondrous sweet and fair!


    c. Dramatic Story (a poem that tells the story intended to be performed or dramatic poetry as written  in blank verse and is meant to be spoken).
        Ex:
                                                           Rudyard Kipling
                      Wash daily from nose-tip to tail tip; drink deeply, but never too deep;
                      And remember the night is for hunting, and forget not the day is for sleep
                      The Jackal may follow the Tiger, but, Cub, when thy whiskers are grown,
                      Remember the Wolf is a Hunter - go forth and get food of thine own.
                      Keep peace with the Lords of the Jungle -the Tiger, the panther, and Bear.
                      And trouble not Hathi the Silent, and mock not the Boar in his lair.
                      WhenPack meets with Pack in the Jungle,and neitherwill go from the trail
                      Lie down till the leaders have spoken it may be fair words shall prevail.


3. There are 3 genres of Indonesia Poetry
    a. Old poetry (a poetry that is bound by rules including anonymous, deliver from mouth to mouth)
        Ex :
                            Sungguh elok asam belimbing
                            Tumbuh dekat limau lungga
                            Sungguh elok berbibir sumbing
                            Walau marah tertawa juga

    b. New poetry (poetry that is free than old poetry in terms of the number of lines, syllables, and rhymes)
        Ex:
                                
Gembala

Perasaan siapa takkan nyala (a)
Melihat anak berelagu dendang(b)
Seorang saja ditengah padang(b)
Tiada berbaju buka kepala (a)
Beginilah nasib anak gembala (a)
Berteduh dibawah kayu nan rindang (b)
Semenjak pagi meninggalkan kandang (b)
Pulang kerumah di senja kala (a)
Jauh sedikit sesayup sampai (a)
Terdengar olehku bunyi serunai (a)
Melagukan alam nan molek permai (a)
Wahai gembala di segara hijau (c)
Mendengarkan puputmu menurutkan kerbau (c)
Maulah aku menurutkan dikau (c)


     c.  Modern poetry/contemporary poetry  (poetry that always adapting or changing with what happen nowadays, or can be interpreted as poetry that was born in the last period)

Sajak Sikat Gigi
Seseorang lupa menggosok giginya sebelum tidur
Di dalam tidur ia bermimpi
Ada sikat gigi menggosok-gosok mulutnya supaya terbuka
Ketika ia bangun pagi hari
Sikat giginya tinggal sepotong
Sepotong yang hilang itu agaknya
Tersesat di dalam mimpinya dan tak bisa kembali
Dan ia berpendapat bahwa, kejadian itu terlalu berlebih-lebihan
